In the "Land of Not Quite Right"

So my best student, the one private class I teach, told me yesterday that today was his last day. Why? Starting next week (the beginning of the school year here) he won't finish school until 11:40 pm. WHAT??? What time does this poor boy start school? 7am. That's right, 7am.
He's a senior in highschool, so he's taking extra courses, and extra study classes to better prepare himself for university, or (more likely) to get into a better university. This is typical.
Crazy... and I thought the worst thing about the school system here was that they have to go to school on Saturday mornings.
Oh, and as this student left tonight (8pm, Friday night), he was going home, then to a math hagwon (math lessons) at 10:30pm .... on a Friday night... This 18 year old boy ...... on a Friday night.....
