Still Going
If you put your finger directly in the middle of a map of Australia, you'll be pointing at where I am. After days of driving, we got to explore the Uluru (Ayers Rock) area. It's a pretty famous landmark/icon of Australia ... the gigantic rock in the middle of the desert. We climbed up it and also walked the 9km around it. We've done many hikes over the past few days at various national parks- we're feeling very in shape.
Other highlights of this 'vacation' have been wine tasting in the Barossa Valley (Wolf Blass and Jacob's Creek - the popular export wines), sleeping underground in a town where it's so hot everyone lives underground .... houses dug out of the rock. It was an opal mining town, so we also had a very interesting tour of a opal mine. We've also seen some gorgeous national parks.
We've seen many kangaroos, dingos, wandering cows, and camels - and have also seen each of the previous as roadkill. Don't worry - they're most active between dusk and dawn, and we don't drive at night.
The 'outback' isn't quite as deserty as we expected. We have another couple days of driving to get out of here though, continuing north, so perhaps we'll soon see what we expected.

Jill, that sounds so incredible! I've read about many of the places you're visiting, and wondered if they would be as amazing as they sound. I can't wait to see pictures. Do you know how much longer you'll stay? Wouldn't it be great if we could meet up?
