Crazy Mad

I'm not sure how the rest of the world views it, but it's really amusing watching the korean protests against US beef imports. There was a big protest Tuesday night, and embassies warned foreigners to stay inside due to the potential violence.
Have you ever thought about the beef you eat? Do you worry every day about dying from Mad Cow disease?
According to an article in yesterday's Korean Times newspaper, the risk of getting the human form of mad cow from US beef is 1/100,000,000. That works out to 0.6 koreans. The article goes on the talk about all the higher risks of death for Koreans. 1/200,000 Koreans die as a direct result (suicide) of the university entrance tests.
One 13 year old school girl was especially upset (assuming they'll use the cheap US beef in school lunches); she was crying saying she's studied so hard to get good grades and now she's just going to die from Mad Cow disease.

There was a baracade of containers(welded together and weighted) in Seoul to prevent protestors from getting too out of hand.

Koreans have been protesting by holding candlelit vigils.

Wow, I had no idea this was an issue. We've heard alllll about the tomatoes possibly tainted with salmonella (and therefore not being served right now in many fast food restaurants) but I never hear of Mad Cow any more... it's still an issue? Stupid news biases.

About as intelligent as Americans dumping French wine down the drains because another country would dare to disagree with them about the wisdom or validity of invading Iraq ... no country/race has a monopoly on stupid and irrational behaviour :-)
