Back to school
We've been back to work for a week now. I have 8 students in my class, two of whom have carried over from last semester as they aren't quite old enough to move on. It's so nice to have my returning students to set the example for the new ones. The new ones aren't so bad. They each stayed just one hour this week. They'll try two hours next week and three (the full time) the week after that. That's quite an adjustment period. There is just one now who cries for the entire hour while the other ones settle down at various points throughout the hour. Each month I'll get more students added to my class, to a maximum of 32.
I have a new coteacher this year. She's actually the assistant (third teacher) who was in my class last year. Though she's very quiet and young, we've had a good first week of working together. I'm just worried she won't be scary enough when it comes time to discipline the kids.
We also have a new supervisor this semester as the last one was fired. Our new supervisor started the week with lots of new tasks for us to do. Tasks which we are not the best people to do. She has lots of new ideas that aren't logical and require a lot of work for little reward. All of we foreign teachers don't like her yet, and I don't believe she's making friends among the Chinese teachers either. She's younger than us, apparently, and that means she's a LOT younger than the Chinese teachers. She doesn't know our school system (our school is part of a chain of 13 schools) and she's trying to change things that are standard throughout the system.
Oh, and the biggest hurdle is that it's hard for us to understand what she says- her English isn't very good. There has been a lot of drama at school this week. Three students have withdrawn, the reasons being 100% due to our supervisor. A lot of things were happening Friday afternoon when we left. So much so that there's a chance she won't be there on Monday morning - she may quit or be fired by then. Last night (Friday night) Brian actually said the words, "I can't wait until Monday". Probably the only time he'll utter those words.
